At Downe House Muscat, we believe that every girl has the potential to achieve remarkable success, no matter which career path she chooses. Our Career Guidance team provides resources, and support needed to navigate the complexities of future decision-making with confidence. Making informed choices about higher education and careers can feel overwhelming, but with a structured and progressive approach, our programme empowers girls to explore their options, develop key skills, and make well-informed decisions about their future. Beginning in Grade 6, our guidance programme gradually builds throughout the years, ensuring that every student is equipped with the knowledge and confidence to take her next steps.
Lower Secondary School Guidance
Early exposure to career possibilities helps build awareness and understanding of the opportunities ahead. In Grade 7, girls begin learning about a wide range of careers, industry expectations, and the essential skills required in the workplace. By Grade 8, they explore key concepts such as career choices, work-life balance, and financial literacy. Understanding budgeting, income, tax, and mortgages introduces them to important real-world responsibilities, while decision-making skills help them assess future academic and career pathways.
Senior School Guidance
As girls move into Senior School, our structured programme provides deeper insights into career planning and higher education. Students participate in lessons, lectures, and one-on-one appointments to help them identify their strengths and aspirations. Psychometric testing further supports this process by guiding them towards careers and university courses that align with their abilities and interests. This period is also crucial for making subject choices, with students selecting their IGCSE subjects in Grade 8 and their A-Level options in Grade 10, setting the foundation for their academic and professional futures.
Sixth Form Guidance
In the Sixth Form, our Career Programme is tailored to each student’s individual needs, equipping them with the skills and knowledge required for university applications and career pathways. They receive dedicated support through CV workshops, interview practice, and academic enrichment lectures delivered by industry professionals and university academics. Our senior students develop essential capabilities such as time management, research techniques, critical thinking, and report writing. By the time they leave Downe House Muscat, every girl is prepared to take her next step with confidence, resilience, and ambition.
