Higher Education programme

Making decisions about the future is a complex and daunting task for anyone, but the key to success lies in making informed decisions. To enable girls to choose a course, a career or an alternative pathway, Downe House Muscat has a comprehensive higher education and careers guidance programme that starts in Grade 6 and builds progressively throughout the years.

Lower Secondary School Guidance

In Grade 7, girls are familiarised with a range of different careers and roles. At this point they start to find out more about the skills that employers look for and the requirements of industry in general. In Grade 8, girls are introduced to the concepts of work, leisure, training, career, education, and work-life balance. They are taught decision-making skills and are introduced to financial terms, such as budget, income, tax, and mortgages.

Senior School Guidance

The Senior school programme is delivered in a variety of ways including formal lessons, presentations, a lecture series, one-to-one appointments, and introduction to psychometric testing. These years are crucial, not just in terms of learning more about the real world, but also in terms of discovering oneself and making the right choices for IGCSEs in Grade 8 and A Levels in Grade 10.

Sixth Form Guidance

To enable girls to choose a course, a career or an alternative pathway, Downe House Muscat offers Sixth Form girls a comprehensive higher education and careers guidance programme specifically tailored to your daughter’s individual needs. This programme encompasses the following opportunities:

CV Workshops – Girls learn how to write a compelling and individualised CV
Academic Enrichment Lectures – Regular lectures by external professional business professionals and university academics
Interview Practice – Every girl in the Sixth Form receives tailored expert interview practice and advice
Higher Education Research Skills (HERS) – Every girl in Grade 11 takes this course which is an introduction to a variety of essential skills including: time management and organisation, research skills, referencing and bibliographies, critical thinking and analysis of arguments and evidence, presentation skills and report writing.
