Lower School (Grades 5, 6 and 7)

The Lower School at Downe House Muscat is designed to give your daughter a broad, engaging, and rewarding educational experience. As well as supporting her emotionally, we help each girl build resilience and encourage her to seize new opportunities in a safe, nurturing, and inspiring environment. These are important years of academic and personal development as the girls move from the Primary curriculum into the Secondary years of their education.

Grade 5

From the moment your daughter joins our Lower School, she will embark upon an adventure of self-fulfilment, ensuring that this period represents one of the most rewarding and enriching phases of her life. The first year of Lower School (Grade 5), has been specifically designed to support the girls for their transition to the Secondary curriculum which begins in Grade 6.

Our classes are small and familiar, allowing your daughter to develop into an independent and inquisitive learner who is confident in both herself and her environment.

As your daughter progresses through Grade 5, we will introduce a more structured approach to learning, ensuring that she is prepared for the progression to the Upper School.

Grades 6 and 7

Through a carefully tailored academic programme in Grades 6 and 7 (Cambridge Lower Secondary Curriculum), we encourage girls to develop a love of learning and an instinct for inquiry. The Upper School curriculum provides girls with a global perspective while also broadening their knowledge of Omani culture and values. Girls are encouraged to collaborate and to inject creativity into their work as they explore new subjects.

They will begin their three-year journey towards carefully selecting their IGCSEs for Grade 9 with guidance and support from their personal tutor and their subject-specialists.

Upper School life is by no means limited to the academic sphere. Girls participate in a broad range of extra-curricular clubs and activities, helping them to develop new skills and interests. Our provision allows your daughter to flourish as an independent young woman, building strong friendships and finding her own place in the vibrant Downe House Muscat community.
